Our first workshop at FC Utrecht, which we are very pleased about. This time, it was not for the players, but for a group of trainers and coaches from the youth teams and the management of the FC Utrecht Academy. The aim of this workshop was made clear right from the start: to provide concrete information and tools to help them move forward. That is where the need lies. <\/p>\n
During the introduction, it becomes clear that, just as in workshops at other clubs, the word \u2018gay\u2019 evokes a negative image, largely unconsciously and unintentionally. Of course, there are also positive associations. Media portrayals play a major role in this, but the group also argues that upbringing, culture and role models have a very significant influence on the social development of young people. \u201cThe image starts with the parents.\u201d<\/p>\n
An example case is presented, which I am allowed to work with within the group. Based on the basic principle \u2018I'm OK\/You're OK\u2019, I can give various example approaches to this situation. The lens through which you view the world is very decisive for your behaviour and therefore also for the reaction of the other person. The group was very receptive to this, which immediately gave me the opportunity to let them experience what a Safe Sports Climate really means. The most important points summarised: respect the autonomy of the other person. Avoid interpreting other people's thoughts and behaviour and focus your attention primarily on your own experience. Then express that openly and honestly. <\/p>\n
Coming out is a personal and intimate process. So is your reaction to it. It is perfectly OK if you don't know how to react at first, or if you find yourself feeling afraid or embarrassed (on their behalf). Be sure to express this, so that the other person can understand what is going on with you. <\/p>\n

Onze eerste workshop bij FC Utrecht, waar we heel blij mee zijn.
